Shadow Ventures founder, K.P. Reddy, chats designing for affordability and energy efficiency with Kevin Bacon, Assistant Director, Atlanta City Studio for the City of Atlanta, and Amol Naik, Chief Resilience Officer for the City of Atlanta, during Shadow Summit 2018.Both panelists have found opportunity through strategic planning and share their insight on how their positions are changing the way Atlanta prepares for the city's future.Kevin Bacon has been looking to streamline processes for city planning and find easier solutions to long-standing issues. "It was difficult to not have an outlet for being able to impact design here and not really seeing it really be integrated into the project work that we're doing in the city. It was always kind of 'what's the project' or the technical solution that we need to provide rather than 'what is the bigger opportunity or the added value that we should be putting into these things?' and 'what is the fundamental change we have the ability to affect," he says.Amol Naik's new position as CRO was created to place emphasis on "bringing resilience functions formally into cities." His key focus in this role is "working on these long-term stressors to create short-term shocks." With extremely relevant issues including climate change and affordable housing at the forefront of planning, his position comes with a certain sense of responsibility to urgency.Hear more about the future of design for affordability and efficiency from these experts in the video below.
