Cutting Through The Tech Startup Clutter

Andrew Ackerman, Managing Director of an "UrbanTech" vertical known as Dreamit Ventures, sat down with us at the 2018 Shadow Summit to share his wisdom on this new category in the CRE/tech sector. After successfully launching Dreamit Edtech, Andrew now runs Dreamit's UrbanTech Accelerator, seeing over 2000 startups each year and selecting fewer than 15 to work with and ultimately invest in.You might be asking, "What is this new category of UrbanTech?"According to Ackerman,“We chose to call our program “UrbanTech” because, at the time, it didn’t have a firm definition. We were using it because it captured the industries we liked the most.” With the program he was developing, UrbanTech was a hot market with endless opportunities.Fast forward almost three years from inception, Andrew now has a deeper understanding of the space and how to determine which companies are worth the investment.
